PLYFA Commitment to Sustainability and Development

This is a non-profit organisation. Its activities are solely for improvement and development of young farmers and agricultural industry in Ghana.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
One of the key charitable objectives of PLYFA is to advance the education of our young farmers and new farmers in their knowledge of agriculture and skills to achieving their objectives.

PLYFA offers funded training opportunities to farmers and help nurture them and farm their workers of the future.

Our training is unique – it is informed by our work supporting farming communities, making it truly tailored for the agricultural sector. We understand the pressures and stressors often associated with farming. Our training is positive and designed to help farmers to plan for the future in a proactive way and support themselves and their farming communities.

PLYFA collaborates with some universities and agricultural colleges to provide knowledgeable and formative training to its members and new young farmers.

AGRI LOVERS ANNUAL CONFERENCE
In every year, PLYFA brings together farmers, agriculturalists and industry representatives from across the Ghana to discuss the current issues affecting the agricultural industry.

The Conference is part of our charitable remit to fund and support agricultural education and to promote issue-based learning.

This conference gives the chance to find out more about some of the most pressing matters facing the industry today, listen to expert views and get involved in the discussion and put your questions to our experts.

INTERNATIONAL TRAINING EXPOSURE

We partner governments bodies, international farming organizations, international farming communities, agricultural institutions, NGOs, and private organizations.

CHALLENGES FACING YOUNG FARMERS
The barriers to entering farming are well-known:

  • Knowledge and Skills Gaps: Those without a farming background often need hands-on training and mentorship to build confidence and capability.

  • Access to Land:Limited availability and high costs can make it difficult for young people to secure their first farm.

  • Financial PressuresStarting a farming business requires significant investment in equipment, livestock, or crops

However, these challenges are being met by PLYFA with the support from our funding bodies and industry leaders.

CURRENT PROJECTS

COLLECTIVE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
The damaging effects of climate change on agriculture are escalating, and the time to act is now

We are running out of time to take collective policy action before the most climate change scenarios become a reality. Climate change spells disaster for farming communities and communities of colour who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

Additionally, in our 2022 and 2023 surveys, our members identified climate action as their number one priority. Young farmers have reduced crops yields, extreme weather events, suffered severe economic losses, have experienced disrupted growing seasons, and sustained damage to their farms due to unpredictable rainfall patterns, droughts, rising temperatures, and extreme weather events like floods. However, our young farmers are uniquely poised to be able to directly mitigate the disastrous effects of climate change through practices that sequester carbon in the soil and build on-farm resilience.

We are working for comprehensive climate legislation and administrative action that provides resources to our young farmers and other farmers who are and will combat climate change and build resiliency on their farms across the country. We do this through farmer-led policy reform, climate advocacy and education, and collaborative and transformative partnerships with peer organizations and allies.

MORE YOUTH INTO FARMING PROJECT
PLYFA aims to train and support 100,000 young people to start their own farming by 2030. We will extend our support to help them to become more self-sufficient and viable.

Youth agricultural training is bringing hope to young people in Ghana. Here, youth unemployment is a significant crisis. Around 70% of unemployed people are youths. There are ample job opportunities in the agriculture sector. However, many youths lack the skills they need to secure careers in farming.

We have trained and coached 150 new young people into farming since we started this project in 2024.

We are seeking for financial supports to expand this project to cover large number of youth and young adults.

Having more young people in the agriculture sector, more food will be generated to combat global food insecurity.

EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN FARMERS - WOMEN IN FARMING
Apprenticeships are for people aged 16 and over and combine working with studying to gain skills and knowledge.
PLYFA is seeking to train and support more young women into agriculture to promote the gender balance and equality in Ghana.

Reforestation and Climate Resilience Project

Cultivating a Legacy: The PLYFA Mahogany Initiative

At the heart of the Ahafo region, the Peace and Love Young Farmers Association (PLYFA) is turning a vision of environmental restoration and economic resilience into reality. We are on a mission to plant 600,000 mahogany trees across 900 acres in Goaso by 2031, and we have already proven it can be done.

Our Progress: From Vision to Roots
We do not just set targets; we meet them. Through the sheer determination of our community and internal resourcefulness, we have successfully completed Phase I, with 200,000 mahogany trees already thriving in Ghanaian soil.

This initial success was entirely self-funded, demonstrating our community's deep-rooted commitment to a greener future. Now, we are ready to scale.

The Goal: 600,000 Trees by 2031
Mahogany is more than just timber; it is a symbol of endurance and high-value ecological impact.

Our project serves three critical pillars:

  • Climate Action: Offsetting carbon footprints and restoring local biodiversity in Goaso.
  • Economic Empowerment: Creating sustainable livelihoods for young farmers in the Ahafo region.
  • Sustainable Legacy: Building a natural resource that will benefit generations to come.

Join Us for Phase II
We are currently seeking visionary partners to help us launch Phase II, which will add another 200,000 trees to our growing forest. Having established a proven track record of execution, PLYFA offers donors a unique opportunity to support a project with high transparency, local ownership, and measurable environmental returns.

Youth Transformation and Sustainable Agriculture

Launching a Greener Future: PLYFA Announces "Vision 2040" for Ghanaian Youth

The Peace and Love Young Farmers Association (PLYFA) is proud to officially announce the launch of its landmark sustainable agriculture project. With a bold mission to transform the landscape of Ghanaian agribusiness, PLYFA has set an ambitious goal: to train 20,000 youth in smart, sustainable, green farming by the year 2040.

Empowering the Next Generation of Agri-Entrepreneurs
As the global climate shifts, traditional farming methods must evolve. PLYFA is bridging the gap by equipping young people who have a passion for the land with modern, smart techniques that prioritize environmental health without sacrificing high yields.

The project focuses on a diverse range of high-value crops and sustainable practices, including:

  • Vegetable Production: Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Chilli Peppers, and Cucumbers.
  • Fruit Farming: Watermelon cultivation.
  • Staple Crops: Maize farming.
  • Specialized Ventures: Mushroom farming and Beekeeping.

Phase One: The Journey Begins
The association is excited to report that the first phase of the project is already in full swing. Training and cultivation have successfully commenced for:

  • Tomatoes
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Watermelons

By focusing on these initial crops, PLYFA is establishing a blueprint for sustainable success that can be scaled across the country. These pilot farms serve as living classrooms where trainees learn the nuances of soil health, water conservation, and green pest management.

"Our goal is to show the youth that farming isn't just a means of survival - it is a sophisticated, sustainable, and profitable career path that contributes directly to the peace and prosperity of Ghana."

The Vision 2040 project is more than just a training program; it is a movement to ensure that the future of Ghanaian agriculture is in capable, youthful, and eco-conscious hands.
